Nanchang University Establishes Institute of New Structural Economics

On June 6, hosted by Nanchang University, and undertaken by the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, the School of Economics and Management of Nanchang University and the Center for Economic and Social Development of Central China of Nanchang University, the Founding Conference of the Institute of New Structural Economics of Nanchang University and Seminar on the Construction of New Liberal Arts in Economics was held at our university. Vice President Liu Yaobin presided over the conference.

Lin Yifu, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of CPPCC, deputy director of the NPC Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, and Zhou Chuangbing, President of Nanchang University,gave a speech respectively and together inaugurated the establishment of the Institute.

On behalf of the University, Zhou Chuangbing extended a warm welcome to the guests. He said that the new structural economics, as a theoretical innovation to study economic development, transformation and operation, has brought a structural change to modern economics. Based on the national strategy and the major realistic needs of regional development, the Institute should continuously deepen the theoretical innovation, explore the direction of the discipline, strengthen the cultivation of talents, boost the university to build a world-class university, and make contributions to the new journey to fully build a modern and powerful socialist China.

Lin Yifu congratulated the establishment of the Institute of New Structural Economics of Nanchang University. He pointed out that the establishment of the Institute, as a strategic move to respond to the call of the General Secretary, follows the era’s development trend and promotes the innovation of Chinese economic theory. As a new platform for discipline construction, the Institute of New Structural Economics of Nanchang University will make new contributions to the establishment of a world-class university and the construction of first-class disciplines.

After the inauguration ceremony, Lin Yifu delivered a speech entitled “New Structural Economics: The Revolution of Modern Economics”. In the afternoon of the day, two seminars named “Seminar on Cultivation of Top-notch Talents in the Experimental Class of Economics Center and New Structural Economics” and “Seminar on Construction of Curriculum and Teaching Materials of New Structural Economics”were held. At the seminars, experts and scholars from more than 30 universities and publishers, including Peking University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nankai University, and Higher Education Press, shared the ideas and made presentations.

The experts and scholars also visited the exhibition of the cultivation achievements of the top undergraduate talents of Jiluan Academy. Lin Yifu affirmed to the innovation of the talent cultivation system of Jiluan Academy and encouraged the students of the experimental class of new structural economics to be ambitious with a higher aim, dig deeper into China's theoretical innovation in economics, keep pace with the new era and grasp new opportunities.

Aiming to seize the new opportunities given by the new era, strengthen cooperation and communication with domestic first-class universities, and promote the economic theory innovation and economics new liberal arts construction with “Chinese Characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner”, the Institute of New Structural Economics of Nanchang University was jointly established by the University’s School of Economics and Management and the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University and will create a new economics liberal arts complex integrating "top-notch talent training, first-class discipline construction and characteristic high-end think tanks" to provides intellectual support for the high-quality development of the old revolutionary base in Jiangxi and even the country’s economic and social development.
