Research on Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Pathogens

RAO Zihe, academician of the CAS Member, academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, professor of both Tsinghua Universityand Nankai University, is currently a member of the presidium of the Academic Department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD), the director of the Committee for Consultation and Evaluation of CASAD, the honorary president of the Biophysical Society of China, the Founding President of the China Union of Life Science Societies. He was the member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of Nankai University, Director of the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Chairman of the International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB).

Professor RAO Zihe and his team havebeen engaged in the research on the three-dimensional structure of pathogens of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and the research on innovative drugs, and have made systematic and innovative contributions to the mechanism research of important pathogens such as influenza viruses, coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2 (the virus causing COVID-19), HIV, hepatitis A virus, hand-foot-and-mouth disease virus, herpes simplex virus, African swine fever virus, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.They have published over 420 peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals, including 25 research papers in the prestigious journals such as Cell, Nature, and Science, being cited over 34,000 times. Additionally, they have obtained 38 patent grants.
