Academician Chen Jian Gives an Academic Report at Nanchang University

On May 5th, Professor Chen Jian, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the former president of Jiangnan University, was invited to Nanchang University to give an academic report entitled “Fermentation Engineering Technology: Missions and Challenges. The report was chaired by Professor Xie Mingyong from Nanchang University, the director of State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Technology and an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. More than 100 teachers and students of NCU listened to the report on the spot.

Starting with the fermentation industry as an important part of biological manufacturing, Professor Chen analyzed and explained the cell factory, synthetic biology, cosmetic raw materials and functional nutrients, and introduced the current domestic and foreign research status of the fermentation industry and key points and difficulties in industrial development. He proposed solutions to difficulties and problems of technology, industry, and institutional mechanisms. Chen Jian advocated to make a breakthrough by smoothing the innovation chain, the industrial chain, the supply chain and the interest chain with an attempt to contribute to the self-reliance of important industries, strengths of key technologies, and distinctive advantages of major products.

Academician Chen’s report provided a fresh perspective on the study of fermentation and was delivered in a clear and effective manner. Teachers and students at presence actively asked questions which were answered with patience by Chen. At the end of the report, participating teachers and students expressed that they benefited a lot.
