On November 18, Chinese Academy of Engineering officially announced the addition of the results of the academicians in 2021. Prof. Xie Mingyong from NCU was elected an academician of Environment & Light and Textile Industries Engineering Division of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and he is the first academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering from NCU, which marks a new major breakthrough in the construction of the leading talent team of Nanchang University.
Prof. Xie Mingyong has been focusing on the research of food-derived polysaccharides and fruit and vegetable fermentation for a long time, and has achieved a series of innovative engineering results. He has led his team to create a series of nutritional health products for improving gastrointestinal function and probiotic fermentation of fruits and vegetables, make all of those products industrialized, and give rise to a new green manufacturing industry of stomach-supporting food therapy and fruit and vegetable fermentation.
Xie Mingyong, male, born in Fenyi, Jiangxi in 1957, a native of Yichun, Jiangxi, obtained the bachelor’s degree conferred by the department of chemical engineering of Jiangxi Institute of Engineering (now Nanchang University) in 1982, obtained the master’s degree conferred by East China Institute of Engineering (now Nanjing University of Science and Technology) in 1988, and obtained the doctor’ degree in nutrition from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1997. He is currently the director of the State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Technology of NCU and the vice president of the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology. He has been engaged in talent training, scientific research and social service in the field of food and nutrition science and technology in Nanchang University for a long time, and won the National S&T Progress Award (Second Class) and the Food Hydrocolloids Trust Medal. He was elected a member of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) in 2016 and has been listed in the Highly-Cited Scientists list by Clarivate Analytics for the past four consecutive years.
