Aixi Lake Lecture - Title of Lecture IX: The Response of Insects to Light and Relevant Applications

Speaker:Researcher Ge Feng

Time:9:30 a.m. Sep. 29th, 2020 (Tuesday)

Place: Conference Room on the first floor of National Silicon Substrate LED Engineering Center, Nanchang University, No. 679 Aixihu North Road, Nanchang City

Profile of the Speaker:

Ge Feng, male, doctor, Grade II researcher, doctoral supervisor. He is now director of State Key Laboratory of Integrated Management of Pest Insects and Rodents of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; distinguished researcher of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He also acts as Secretary of Party Committee and Secretary-General of the Entomological Society of China, managing director of Ecological Society of China, director of China Society of Plant Protection; editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Applied Entomology, member of editorial boards of Insect Science, Scientific Reports, Acta Ecologica Sinica, Chines Journal of Ecology and Biodiversity Science.

He mainly engages in researches of insect ecology and pest ecological control in global changes. For the past years, by taking environmental changes (light, temperature, increase of CO2 & O3 in the atmosphere and changes in landscape pattern of farmlands) as a stress factor and taking the interaction between crops, pests and natural enemies as the principal line, he has conducted researches about the response of harmful organisms in different systems to environmental changes, interpreted the features and mechanism of the response of important agricultural pests and their natural enemies to environmental changes, raised new strategies about pest control and natural enemy utilization in future global changes, improved and developed theories and methods about pest ecological control for enhancing the ecological service function, guided pest ecological control for crops such as wheat, corn and apple, produced green ecological products and achieved remarkable ecological, economic and social benefits.

He has published more than 360 theses in domestic and foreign academic journals as the first author or corresponding author. Of them, more than 150 theses are published in SCI journals such as Current Biology, Global Change Biology and Elife. He has written the monograph Response of Insects to Increase of CO2 Concentration in the Atmosphere and acted as editor-in-chief of Modern Ecology and Theories and Methods about Insect Ecology. He has won more than 10 patents for invention. He has won the second prize of the award for scientific and technological advancement of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the second prize of the award for scientific and technological advancement of Shandong Province and the second prize of the award for scientific and technological advancement of Hunan Province. He enjoys State Council special allowance (1999) and got the title of National Excellent Scientific and Technical Worker (2012).

Teachers and students, welcome to the lecture!
