Brief introduction to the Lecturer

Wang Jianguo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Southeast University, is incumbent director of the National Advisory/Steering Committee on Teaching Architecture to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education (MOE), the vice director-general of the Architectural Society of China, the vice director-general of China Association of City Planning, the deputy director of the Urban Design Expert Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), and the chief editor of Frontiers of Architectural Research. In 2001, he was elected as Distinguished Professor of the “Changjiang Scholars Program” by MOE and won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He has long been engaged in scientific research, teaching and engineering practice in the fields of urban design and architecture and has achieved a series of innovative results. He is the first one in China that has developed the theory and methodology of modern urban design in a comparatively systematic and comprehensive manner, revealing the construction mechanism of urban spatial form from a technical perspective, as part of efforts to initially tackle urban design problems related to height, density, cityscape optimization and management and control in urban construction. He has published 7 books and more than 200 papers. His achievements have won 1 first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, 1 first prize and 4 second prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and 1 first prize of the China Award for Science and Technology in Construction of MOHURD. He has presided over and completed more than 100 urban and architectural design projects, including the overall urban design of Guangzhou, Nanjing, and the central city/downtown area of Zhengzhou and the design of the Visitor Center of Nanjing Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, and the main exhibition hall at the Garden Expo Park of the 10th Horticultural Exposition of Jiangsu Province, and has won various national awards successively, namely 4 first prizes and 6 second prizes for National Outstanding Architectural Design and Outstanding Planning and Design, 1 gold and 1 silver for the Architectural Design Award (Architecture Creation) of the Architectural Society of China, 10 first prizes for design at ministerial or provincial level, and 2 international awards.
