The 11th Ganpo Frontier Forum on Chemistry Kicks off at NCU

On the morning of December 29th, the opening ceremony of the 11th Ganpo Frontier Forum on Chemistry was held in Nanchang City to implement the strategic plan of “education, technology, and talent” put forward at the 20th National Congress of the CPC and the expectations expressed by the General Secretary Xi Jinping in the speeches during his inspections in Jiangxi Province. The opening ceremony was addressed respectively by Shuai Zhigang, President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Xiong Rengen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ge Gang, Vice President of Nanchang University (NCU), and was presided over by Chen Yiwang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Gannan Normal University and Director of the Institute of Polymers and Energy Chemistry of NCU.

In his speech, Shuai Zhigang expressed the desire for building deep mutual trust and establishing close cooperation with fellow universities and colleges. He stressed that the greatest truths are the simplest, and hard work is the key. Therefore, he raised expectations that the participating students would write excellent papers and contribute to the local economy with the focus on the “1269” action plan for the modernization of the key industrial chain of the manufacturing sector in Jiangxi.

Xiong Rengen pointed out in his speech that young people should be patriotic, open-minded, inclusive, and innovative. He also called on Jiangxi scholars in chemistry to strengthen academic exchanges and work together to improve the academic standard of relevant disciplines in Jiangxi, so as to lay a solid foundation for the development of NCU and contribute to the local economic and social development.

Ge Gang, on behalf of NCU, extended sincere congratulations on the successful convening of the forum and a warm welcome to all the attendees including experts, teachers and students. Ge stressed that through this forum, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering shall assist in the high-quality development of chemistry and chemical engineering disciplines, continuously consolidate ideological consensus, and jointly overcome the difficulties and challenges faced by ecological and environmental governance requirements for pollution reduction and carbon reduction throughout the entire process, creating a bright future for green transformation.

Themed by “New Journey, New Mission, New Start for the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering”, the forum is a high-standard academic event under the action of “Forge Ahead Toward the New Journey, a New Start for the Century-old NCU”. The forum was initiated by the Organizing Committee of Ganpo Frontier Forum on Chemistry and was organized by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. 30 experts and scholars from universities and research institutes in Jiangxi province attended the opening ceremony and more than 100 doctoral and master's students from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of NCU attended the conference.
