NCU Professor Awarded “the Most Outstanding Volunteer for Science and Technology” by CAST in 2023

(School ofPhysics and Materials Science)Recently, China Association for Science and Technology(CAST) published the list of advanced models for volunteer service in science and technology in 2023.Thirty people all over the country wereawarded as“the most outstanding volunteer for science and technology”, among which NCUProfessor Yuan Jiren, the only one of Jiangxi province, was included.

The goal of the advanced models list by CAST is to deliver on the Xi Jingping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and carry forward the spirit of “researching should serve the country and learning should serve the people” for volunteer service in science and technology, in an attempt to spur more scientific and technological workers and people in the society to engage in.

Yuan Jiren, a professor and doctoral supervisorof School of Physics and Materials Scienceat NCU, dedicated to popular science for many years and established a group entitled Spark Popular Science Team for Volunteer Service of NCU. He invited actively experts and professors, young doctors, excellent graduates and undergraduates to join in volunteer service in science and technology. He also held regular activities for popular science themed on nanometer, astronomy, quantum, new energy and metaverse, constantly enriched the form of popular science and explored the “Popular Science Integration” mode consisting of lecture, demonstration, experience and DIY of popular science to serve 11 districts in the province with participating people of more than 200,000. His deeds were widely reported by People’s Daily, Learning Power, Xinhuanet, CNR, China Daily, China Education Daily and other national mainstream media.

Yuan Jiren and his team were recommended for two years in succession (the year of 2021 and 2022) to compete for the annual figure for disseminating science selected by “Science Popularization in China ”program by CAST and the school his team subordinating to wasamong the first batch to be approved as Science Popularization Education Base of Chinese Physical Society (the only one in the province).Also, he was awarded as “Excellent Communist Party Member”, “Excellent Party Worker” of NCU, “Excellent Popular Science Worker” of Jiangxi Physical Society and “the Most Outstanding Volunteer for Popular Science” of Jiangxi province.
