NCU Students Made New Breakthroughs in MCM/ICM 2020

Recently, the results of 2020 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and 2020 Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) have been released. Students of our university have made new breakthroughs in this contest, with 2 Finalists, 8 Meritorious Winners, and 25 Honorable Mentions. The proportion of Finalist is generally 0.17%, and Nanchang University is the first university in Jiangxi province to have obtained this prize.

In 2020, the MCM/ICM has attracted 20948 teams from China, America, England, France and other countries and regions, including more than 60,000 college students from Stanford University, Cambridge University, Columbia University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other universities at home and abroad. Nanchang University has been participating in this contest since 2003, and the results have been kept among the best teams of universities from home and abroad. This year, the mathematical modeling teaching team from School of Sciences of Nanchang University has made full use of the online media technology and other methods to overcome the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19, fought together with all the participating members and achieved the best results in history.

Starting from 1985 and organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the MCM/ICM is the only international mathematical modeling contest for college students and has been regarded as the “Olympics” in mathematical modeling.
