Central Mainstream Media Focus on "The Light" of Nanchang University

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has visited Jiangxi twice, and put forward the positioning of "making demonstrations in accelerating the high-quality development of the old revolutionary base area and striving to be a pioneer in promoting the rise of the central region", and important requirements of "five promotions" to guide the reform and development of Jiangxi in the new era, draw a blueprint, point out the forward direction, inject strong power and provide fundamental guidance for the development of the old revolutionary base areas.
     On June 8, mainstream media including People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency and CRN News published articles to report the effectiveness and initiatives of the cadres and masses in Jiangxi creating a new situation in the rise of the central region by remembering General Secretary Xi Jinping's wishes, seizing strategic opportunities, and using the spirit and wisdom of the Long March in a new era.      

At the same time, these reports also focus on the scientific research team of the National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center of Nanchang University, the members of which bear in mind the earnest entrust of General Secretary Xi Jinping and have transformed it into the loyalty and commitment to the red earth sacred place of Jiangxi, and has displayed the achievement of "being an example, being a pioneer" in the reform and development.

20 years of persistence is the key to success! Academician Jiang Fengyi is the Vice President of Nanchang University and Director of National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center, whose team developed the silicon-based yellow-light LED technology and reached the world's leading level. On January 8, 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping awarded Jiang Fengyi the only First Grade Certificate of 2015 National Award of Technology Invention.
  To Jiang Fengyis surprise, he met the General Secretary again in the laboratory within a month. "Once again, I felt the importance attached by the General Secretary Xi to technological innovation." Jiang Fengyi still vividly remembers the scene on February 3, 2016. The General Secretary Xi inspected the whole process from material growth, chip manufacturing and packaging application in detail, was greatly interested in some core technologies and asked very detailed questions. 
  Today, the laboratory has a new look. The building covers an area of 30,000m2, equipped with the most advanced equipment, helping the team achieve one breakthrough after another: The team has independently developed and succeeded in producing MOCVD equipment, realizing the independent control of design and manufacturing technology of LED high-end equipment; has successfully developed the yellow-light LED chip, whose luminous efficiency level is far higher than the best level in foreign countries, solving the worldwide problems that have troubled this field for more than 50 years...    

"I hope that contemporary college students will cherish your best years, closely connect your study and growth with the cause of the Party and the country, closely combine them with the needs of society and the people, pave the way with youth and broaden your ideals". In February 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the laboratory of National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center of Nanchang University to learn about the technological innovation, talent cultivation and industry-university-research cooperation.

Nowadays, Nanchang has become an "important city" in the LED industry: LED chip production capacity has leapt to the top three in the world, ranking among the largest production bases of high-power LED light sources in China, and the shipment volume of mobile flash and mobile lighting ranks the first in the world.

Every night, we can enjoy the brilliant and gorgeous LED lights shown on both sides of Ganjiang River in Nanchang. Nowadays, Nanchang has become an "important city" in the global LED industry: LED chip production capacity has leapt to the top three in the world, ranking among the largest production bases of high-power LED light sources in China, and the shipment volume of mobile flash and mobile lighting ranks the first in the world.    

Why is Nanchang LED so "brilliant"? The first beam of light came from the academician Jiang Fengyis team of Nanchang University. They spent 19 years developing silicon substrate blue-light LED technology, and opened the worlds third blue-light LED technology route.    

Relying on the important innovation R&D platform of National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center of Nanchang University, Jiangxi has realized the leap from international convergence of silicon substrate blue-light LED to international leadership of silicon substrate yellow-light LED, and has formed original technology advantage and production capacity of the whole industry chain. In 2021, representative enterprises such as Lattice Power, Change Light, Jiangxi Hongli Tronic and Lianovation all achieved a growth rate of more than 30%.

At the National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center of Nanchang University, Chinas independently developed technology of silicon substrate yellow-light LED chip has made significant breakthrough recently, and the chip electro-optical conversion efficiency has reached 27.8%, which is at the international leading level.
In February 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping made a special trip here to inspect the chip manufacturing process and understand the scientific and technological innovation in the laboratory. Wang Guangxu, Deputy Director of National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center of Nanchang University, said that the General Secretary Xis encouragement is the inexhaustible driving force for the scientific research team to climb the world's scientific and technological peak.    

Wang Guangxu: General Secretary Xi said that the process of mastering core technology is painstaking, but we must endure the process, since its impossible to buy or beg for the core technology. He encouraged us step by step to overcome the technical difficulties one by one conscientiously and steadfastly.    

Over the past six years, Jiangxis LED industry has not only leapt from international convergence to international leadership, but also incubated and attracted hundreds of enterprises to form industrial clusters. LED chip production capacity has leapt to the top three in the world, and the shipment volume of mobile flash and mobile lighting has ranked the first in the world. LED green lighting, Internet of Things, VR and other industries have doubled in scale for three consecutive years, becoming the new business card of Jiangxi Province.
