Commencement 2023 of Nanchang University, Ten Thousand Graduates Starting a New Chapter of Life

Do not linger while chasing the wind and pursuing the moon; for the end of the grassland reveals verdant mountains. On the morning of June 21st, the Commencement 2023 and degree conferral ceremony of Nanchang University (NCU) was grandly inaugurated amid the solemn national anthem. Over ten thousand graduates gathered at the White Sail Stadium, ready to “set sail” and chase their dreams as they embarked on a new chapter in their lives. University leaders, including Secretary of the CPC Committee at NCU Luo Sihai, heads of various departments, alumni representatives, parents' representatives, and faculty representatives, attended the ceremony.

Vice President Liu Yaobin presided over the ceremony.

Vice President Liu Chengmei announced the “Decisions on the Graduation and Degree Conferral for the Class of 2023” and the “Commendation for Outstanding Graduates of the Class of 2023”.

Chen Yeguang, President of NCU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a speech titled "Realizing One's Value in an Ordinary Life" where he extended the warmest congratulations and best wishes to the graduating class of 2023 on behalf of all faculty and staff of the university. He also expressed sincere greetings and deep respect to the dedicated teachers and parents who have nurtured these students zealously. “Mundanity is the essence of life. ‘Realizing one’s value in an ordinary life’ means aligning one’s growth with the demands of the times, society, profession, and occupation; may you become valuable members of society and make significant contributions to the best of your capacity.” As both the president and a senior of NCU, Chen encouraged the graduates with sincere and heartfelt words, urging them to uphold the sentiment of “with no thought to claim credit, but with resolve to contribute” to the country. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of “being a serious person and doing things steadfastly” and the value pursuit of “adhering to dreams in ordinary life and creating extraordinary achievements through hard work”. He urged the graduates to integrate their personal “small goals” into the “grand blueprint” of the cause of the Party and the nation, to continually learn and improve themselves, and to achieve self-worth through their efforts. President Chen reminded the graduates to love and specialize in their chosen fields, not seeking shortcuts or fame, but rather taking gradual steps to write remarkable chapters in their lives.

“Our generation is a generation that is honored, knowledgeable, and capable of achieving great things. The university spirit of patriotism, self-improvement, innovation, and pragmatism shines brightly and flourishes in this century-old institution and in each one of us.” “As the youth of the new era, we will cherish the opportunities and shoulder the missions presented by our times, stand at the forefront to be pioneers, and live up to the times, our youth and dreams!" Luo Chengyang, a graduate from the School of Humanities and Xue Hui, a Ph. D. graduate from the College of Food Science and Technology, expressed their infinite aspirations and ambitious goals for the future in their speeches.

“Set sail and embark on the journey towards the future. May you be full of confidence and courageously pursue your dreams.” Lei Qunying, the Bearer of Red Flag March 8th, Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Fudan University, and an alumnus of the Class of 1988 in the Department of Preventive Medicine, extended heartfelt blessings to the graduates.

"Thank you, teachers! Thank you for your hard work!" The graduates, with deep gratitude, presented flowers to the faculty representatives. These bouquets of flowers are a heartfelt affirmation from the students to the school's teaching and administrative staff for their diligent efforts and silent dedication. They also symbolize the unwavering strength and endless motivation of all the faculty and staff in overcoming challenges and forging ahead in the process of building a world-class university.

Accompanied by stirring music, the team of supervisors, composed of university leaders, deans of colleges, and representatives of outstanding teachers, ceremoniously moved the tassel from the right side to the left of the graduation cap,

while presenting every graduate with scroll filled with well wishes. As the tassels swayed gently from right to left, the students marked a perfect ending to their years of study at Nanchang University.
