To tell Chinas stories well and promote cultural exchanges, the Award Ceremony of the 2023 “Talk and Show Jiangxi” Short Video Contest & the Opening Ceremony of the 6th International Cultural Festival of Nanchang University was successfully held on December 22 at the concert hall. Fan Yong, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, Mao Jianjun, member of the Editorial Board of China News Service, and Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of NCU, attended and addressed the event. Also present were Hu Zhiyang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, Wang Xiujun, President of the Jiangxi Branch of China News Service, Liu Yaobin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NCU, and Huang Meiling, Second-level Inspector of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province.

During the ceremony, Luo Sihai, Mo Jianjun, and Fan Yong congratulated the success of the event, acknowledging the significance of the contest. They also extended warm congratulations to the winners and collectively expressed their hopes for international students to capitalize on their learning opportunities in Jiangxi to delve deeper into Chinese history and culture so as to present an accurate, multi-dimensional and panoramic image of China and contribute to the building of a global community with a shared future.

Leaders and guests presented awards for the 2023 “Talk and Show Jiangxi” Short Video Contest, including the first, second, and third prizes, excellence prizes, popularity awards, and outstanding organization awards. Additionally, they jointly launched the 2024 “Talk and Show Jiangxi” Short Video Contest and the 6th International Cultural Festival of NCU, fostering a platform for continued cultural exchange and storytelling.

In this years Talk and Show Jiangxi contest, jointly organized by the Jiangxi Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and the China News Service Jiangxi Branch, NCU was honored with the Outstanding Organization Award. NCU international students secured a Third Prize, an Excellence Prize, and a Popularity Award, showcasing their qualities and positive attitude.

The opening ceremony kicked off with international students singing My Chinese Teacher. They expressed their love of for China and the Chinese language with their melodious singing and emotional interpretations. The vibrant and expressive classical Indian dance captured the audience with its dynamic movements. The Gan Opera Opera Warriors showcased a unique charm as international students wore Chinese opera costumes and played different martial roles. A medley of songs including What a Beautiful Jasmine Flower, Friends, and Friendship Forever conveyed heartfelt emotions, narrating deep friendship between Chinese and international students. The captivating and awe-inspiring dance medley A Dance Journey Across the Oceans showcased traditional dances from countries such as Africa, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia. From their unique perspectives and in fluent Chinese, international students passionately recounted China in My Eyes. The fashion show Colorful World displayed a visual feast by blending ethnic features from various cultures. The joint performance of Chinese and international students singing The Moon Represents My Heart was a tender and refreshing moment. Finally, the event came to an end with the singing of the original song Towards the Future, showing the spirit of youthful dreams and aspirations.

Themed “A Bridge to Civilizations, A Passage to the Future”, this year’s International Cultural Festival featured a series of events, including the award ceremony for the 2023 “Talk and Show Jiangxi” Short Video Contest & the opening ceremony of the 6th International Cultural Festival of Nanchang University, the World Culture Exhibition, Chinese Traditional Costume Experience, Cross-Border Educational Achievements Exhibition, Outstanding Student Works Exhibition, International Education Exchange Project Introduction Exhibition, Cultural Salons for Chinese and International Students, International Chinese Education Workshop, and Young Voices Model United Nations Conference.

The World Culture Exhibition showcased distinctive pavilions from countries such as India, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, Morocco, and Yemen, creating a lively and extraordinary atmosphere. The Chinese Traditional Costume Experience attracted numerous onlookers eager to experience and appreciate the rich traditional clothing. The exhibitions on Cross-Border Educational Achievements, Outstanding Student Works, and International Education Exchange Projects were diverse and eye-catching, providing a comprehensive overview of the universitys international education achievements.

Remaining committed to an open and inclusive educational approach, the university strives to build the brand “Study at NCU”, reinforcing the management and development of international education. It aims to become the most influential and attractive destination for international students in Jiangxi, contributing to the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative. Since the admission of foreign students in 1997 as a demonstration base for the Ministry of Education’s international student program, NCU has attracted and cultivated over 5,000 students from more than 120 countries. Currently, there are nearly 1,200 international students enrolled, ranking first in the province. Over the years, NCU has actively engaged in “Understanding China, Being Friends with China” education for international students, organizing various cultural exchanges, social practices, and competitions. The NCU International Cultural Festival has become a campus brand for cultural exchange between Chinese and international students, demonstrating the charm of traditional Chinese culture and arts. Through various activities during the festival, it not only highlights the allure of Chinese culture but also opens a window for Chinese students to understand the world and explore diverse cultures, fostering friendships, and building bridges for mutual exchange and appreciation between different civilizations on campus.
