Nanchang University Achieves the Non-Invasive Precise Treatment of Thrombus

Professor Wang Xiaolei and Doctor Ding Xingwei of 3D Printing and Bio-Material Laboratory of our Translational Medicine Research Institute has taken the lead to first develop the photoresponsive non-invasive precise treatment of thrombus all over the world. The relevant results were published in Advanced Functional Materials (with an impact factor of 12.14), a first-rate international journal on Aug. 27, 2017. Nanchang University is the first signature unit.

According to the description of Dr. Ding Xingwei, the main completer of the project, the system designed by them can generate a photo-thermal effect at the position of thrombus under the radiation of near infrared rays so as to achieve the accurate and controllable release of thrombolytic drugs. The more exciting finding is that, the 3D-printed simulated experiment proves that, the local overheating caused by photoresponse also generates an excellent thrombolytic effect. The method of integrating physical thrombolysis and drug thrombolysis can fundamentallly improve the efficacy and safety of thrombolytic drugs to make the noninvasive of thrombus possible.

The highlight of this study: the vascular environment is simulated by means of the 3D printing technology, which provides a convenient and scientific evaluation method for this study.

"It is worth mentioning that, this technology is also very effective in eliminating the hematoma". Smiling, Professor Wang Xiaolei said, "it is promising that a foot player do not have to wait for one or two weeks for the ankles sprain in basketball playing; if there is no problem in bones, he/she can play in the court again soon after the ankle is irradiated using this technology for half an hour"
