Sep 2, 2024

(By Cheng Huiping) On the morning of August 26, Zheng Quanshui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an alumnus of NCU, was invited to deliver a lecture as part of NCU's 2024 cadre competency training program titled“Leading Ahead, Striving for Excellence, and Taking Initiative.”The lecture also served as NCU's mid-year work seminar. Following the lecture, Zheng participated in exchanges and discussions. Liu Yaobin, the Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, presided over the meeting.

Zheng Quanshui delivered a lecture titledJoyful Learning and Teaching-Innovative Education: New Educational Practices and Reflections in the Age of Digital Intelligence." Based on current societal developments and changes, he shared his explorations and practices in cultivating innovative talents independently, drawing on his own growth experiences as well as vivid educational examples from the Tsien Excellence in Engineering Program at Tsinghua University and the Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Program at Nanchang University. His insights provided direction and pathways for NCU's educational reform.

Zheng Quanshui pointed out that education in the digital and intelligent era is at a significant turning point. He called for a reset of the underlying logic of education, advocating for breaking traditional boundaries and embracing innovation as the intrinsic driving force for educational development. He stressed the importance of adopting a student-centered approach, promoting an open and innovative educational model, and creating a learning environment that enhances students’ thinking abilities and helps them apply their knowledge in practice. Additionally, he emphasized the need to ignite students' passion for learning and their spirit of exploration, support their individualized growth, and help them become the best versions of themselves. Instead of focusing on continuously fixing their weaknesses, the emphasis should be on recognizing and developing students’strengths. This approach allows students to build confidence through enjoyment and happiness, empowering them to face greater challenges and achieve faster and better growth.

NCU leaders and all middle-level cadres attended the lecture.

After the meeting, Zheng Quanshui visited the Institute for Advanced Study and Jiluan Academy at NCU, where he engaged in discussions with faculty and students.

“How can one balance coursework and research? How can one develop self-learning abilities? How should one choose a direction for further studies?”At the Institute for Advanced Study, Zheng Quanshui answered these questions raised by students one by one, encouraging them to identify their interests and overcome challenges.

At Jiluan Academy, Zheng Quanshui, on behalf of X-Institute in Shenzhen, engaged in discussions on cultivating top innovative talents and potential cooperation with NCU. Ge Gang, vice president of NCU, attended the meeting. Participants held a spirited discussion on the selection and cultivation of innovative talents and student development, exchanging views on future collaboration between NCU and X-Institute in talent cultivation.

Attendees at the discussion included relevant officials from the X-Institute Council, relevant officials from Nanchang University's Education Committee for Cultivating Top Innovative Talents among Undergraduates, the Academic Affairs Office, the Teaching Supervision and the Evaluation Office, Jiluan Academy, and Huankui Academy, and representatives of faculty and students from the Institute for Advanced Study.
