Cell Fate Regulation and Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine

Speaker: Gao Shaorong

Gao Shaorong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Member of the Department of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, currently serves as the Director of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences at Tongji University, Director of the Frontier Science Center for “Stem Cell Pluripotency and Cell Fate Editing” under the Ministry of Education, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, and Vice President of China Zoological Society. He is also an editorial board member of several prestigious international academic journals including Cell Stem Cell. Academician Gao is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a Distinguished Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program under the Ministry of Education, a Leading Talent of the National Ten-Thousand Talents Program, the Principal Investigator of the Excellent Research Group Program (formerly the Basic Science Center Program) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Principal Investigator of the Innovative Research Group Program of NSFC. As the first completed person, he has been awarded the Second Prize of the State Natural Science Award, the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and the First Prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award. He has also received the National Innovation Pioneers Award, the Zhou Guangzhao Foundation Award for Outstanding Young Scientists in Basic Sciences, the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Innovation Award, and the Distinguished Achievement Award of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, among others.

Academician Gao has long focused on basic and translational research in embryonic development and pluripotent stem cells. His related research achievements have been selected among the Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs in the World and the Top 10 Advances in Life Sciences in China. As a corresponding author, he has published over 150 papers in prestigious international academic journals including Nature and Science, with nearly 15,000 citations. And many of his achievements have been incorporated into textbooks.
