Program Introduction

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars from abroad (including non-Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering, and technology to return (or come) to China for work. The program supports scholars in independently selecting research directions to conduct innovative studies, fostering the rapid development of young scientific and technological talents, and cultivating a group of exceptional academic leaders poised to advance global scientific frontiers, thereby contributing to building a strong nation in science and technology.



Application Criteria

Applicants for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) must meet the following conditions:

1. Comply with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics, and actively embody the spirit of scientists in the new era.

2. Born on or after January 1, 1986.

3.Hold a doctoral degree.

4. Focus primarily on research in natural sciences (including Medicine and Life Sciences), or engineering.

5. Since obtaining a doctoral degree until June 15, 2026, applicants are generally required to hold a formal teaching or research position at a renowned overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D organization for at least 36 consecutive months. Exceptions may be made for those who obtained their doctoral degree overseas and demonstrate particularly outstanding achievements, allowing for a relaxation of the work experience requirement. (This does not apply to those who obtained their doctoral degree through Sino-foreign joint training programs). During the period of overseas employment, if an applicant also holds a paid position in China, the duration of that domestic position will not be counted as part of the overseas work experience.

6. Have achieved research or technological accomplishments recognized by peer experts and demonstrate potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the relevant field.

7. Have not yet returned to (or come to) China for full-time work, or have returned to (or come to) China for work after January 1, 2025. Upon receiving funding, applicants must resign from overseas positions and work full-time in China for at least 3 years.


Restrictive Requirements: Adhere to the requirements of central authorities regarding the coordinated integration of national science and technology talent programs. Individuals at the same level of the national science and technology talent program can only undertake one project and submit one application per reporting year, and are not allowed to apply for projects at a lower level.


Restriction Requirements

These shall follow the relevant provisions on overall coordination under national science and technology talent programs. Applicants may undertake only one program at the same tier of national science and technology talent programs and may not apply for programs of a lower tier.


Funding Amount: RMB 1-3 million

Funding Duration: 3 years



Supporting Measures

1. Remuneration and Benefits: Competitive and generous annual salary (negotiable on a case-by-case basis), and house purchase subsidies;

2. Research Funding: Sufficient start-up funds for scientific research, and laboratory space and platform support;

3. Professional Title and Position: Appointment to senior titles and eligibility to serve as co-supervisors of doctoral and postdoctoral students;

4. Personnel Quota Management: Formal university appointment (tenure-track equivalent) is offered in accordance with policy regulations;

5. Talent Housing: One transitional apartment and eligibility for talent housing at preferential rates are provided;

6. Enrollment Policies: Priority support for Master’s and Doctoral student recruitment; support for the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows and specially appointed researchers;

7. Spouse Placement: Appropriate arrangement of employment for the spouse;

8. Childrens Education: Access to high-quality educational resources spanning from the Affiliated Primary School to High School of NCU;

9. Medical Services: Eligibility to apply for Jiangxi Provincial High-Level Talent certification; access to quality healthcare provided by the provincial and municipal hospitals.

NCU: Boundless Prospects



The First Affiliated Hospital of NCU is one of the first 3A-grade hospitals in China. It is a comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching and training, scientific research, disease prevention and healthcare, and health management and promotion. The hospital has been rated A+ in the National Tertiary Public Hospital Performance Assessment for six consecutive years. It is the only medical institution in Jiangxi Province to be listed among the national top 100 in the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM), ranking 95th nationwide in 2023. Covering a total floor area of 734,000 square meters, the hospital has 5,600 licensed beds.


The hospital is affiliated with the Jiangxi provincial medical center for major public health incidents. It has been granted titles of multiple national-level centers and bases, including a center unit of National Project to Improve the Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity of Difficult Respiratory Diseases, National Major Epidemic Prevention and Treatment Base, the leading hospital of the National Rare Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Network in Jiangxi, and the key contact hospital of National High-Quality Nursing Service Demonstration Project in Jiangxi. The hospital is home to National Digestive System Diagnosis and Treatment Center, National Stroke Center, National Chest Pain Center, as well as 13 provincial diagnosis and treatment centers and 15 provincial medical quality control centers. The hospital is the chairman unit of the Pain Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, vice president unit of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, vice chairman unit of both the Burns Surgery Branch and the Disaster Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and vice president unit of the Blood Transfusion Physician Branch, Burns Physician Branch, and Pain Physician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. It also serves as the affiliated unit for 36 specialty branches of the Jiangxi Medical Association and 15 secondary branches of the Jiangxi Medical Doctor Association.


The hospital now houses 53 clinical and medical technical departments and is equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including the tri-functional “one-stop” digital hybrid operating room, the positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) scanner, the da Vinci surgical system, and orthopedic surgical robots. It provides a wide range of leading-edge and specialty medical services, such as human organ transplantation, in vitro fertilization (IVF), neuroendoscopic surgery, minimally invasive pain interventions, minimally invasive interventions for heart valve diseases, intensive care for patients with extensive burns, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), research and clinical treatment of inhalation injuries, and behavioral assessment techniques for chronic disorders of consciousness. Among all the 12 technologies in the latest edition of the National Catalog of Restricted Medical Technologies, our hospital has filed and registered the following restricted medical technologies: allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, allogeneic musculoskeletal structural tissue transplantation, allogeneic corneal transplantation, radioactive seed implantation therapy, tumor ablation therapy, AI-assisted therapy, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology. From 2018 to 2021, the advanced precision techniques of the hospital, led by robotic surgery, ranked among the top in Jiangxi and even the whole country. The hospital has obtained practice qualifications for heart transplantation and lung transplantation, as well as “prenatal diagnosis” certification. It has also established the PET Center, the Digital Medicine Center (3D Printing Technology Center), and the Center for Molecular Diagnosis and Precision Medicine.
