ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge Final jointly held by Asia Supercomputer Association,NanchangUniversityand Inspur Group was held in our University from May 5 to May 9. The team of our University, as the team ofJiangxiProvincefirst entering the Final, attended the competition and won the first prize.
ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge is the largest-scale university students’ supercomputer competition in the world launched by our country, having been held for seven years. It is one of three global major supercomputer competitions with the other two of American SC and German ISC Student Supercomputer Challenge.
There are more than 300 university students teams entering for the competition. They were from 165 universities in the six continents such asAmerica, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe andOceania. The teams qualified for the final independently designed and assembled supercomputer under rated power consumption of 3000W, having completed highly difficult problems from Microsoft AI robot reading comprehension, Nobel Prize scientific application of electron cryomicroscopy Relion, benchmark test of NASA software CFL3D, HPL and HPCG for computational fluid mechanics.
After five-day fierce competition, the team of Tsinghua University won the champion; the team of Shanghai Tech University won the second prize and e Prize computer challenge award; the team of National Tsing Hua University won the highest computer performance award; Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National University of Defense Technology and Russian St Petersburg State University won application innovation award; the teams of such universities won the first prize as American Texas A&M University, Kasetsart University, The University of Miskolc, Qinghai University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Fuzhou University, Taiyuan University of Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Russian St Petersburg State University, Southeast University, Zhejiang University, Beihang University, Sun Yat-Sen University, National University of Defense Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National Tsing Hua University and our University.
Speeches were made in the award ceremony by Wang Endong — Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of Inspur Group, Liao Xiangke — Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Lixia — Deputy Director General of Jiangxi Provincial Education Department, Jack Dongarra — Academician of National Academy of Engineering and Distinguished Professor of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and The University of Tennessee, as well as Zhu Youlin — Vice President of our University. Mo Zeyao — Chairman of Jury Committee of ASC Competition and Deputy Director ofInstituteofApplied Physicsand Computational Mathematics made comments on the results of ASC18 Final. Yu Xiaoshe — Secretary of Party Committee of our University attended the ceremony. The participating guests presented awards to the winning teams.
During the period of the Final, a series of activities were also held, like “the 18th HPC Connection Workshop International Supercomputer Summit”, “AI and Supercomputer Innovation Seminar”, “ASC Education Committee Meeting”, and etc., and famous experts and scholars from home and abroad likeChina, theUSA,Europemade reports and discussions on AI, supercomputer, science, and other innovative subjects.
