President Chen Yeguang Leads a Delegation to Visit Russia

(International Education College) From April 16th to 20th, Chen Yeguang, President ofNanchang University (NCU)and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to visit Russia to actively promote cooperation and exchanges between NCUand Russia’s top universities. This visit laid a solid foundation for NCU to deepen and expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation inglobal higher education.

On April 17th, the delegation visited Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and met with Yuri A. Mazei, Vice-Rectorin charge of international cooperation of MSU.The two parties conducted in-depth discussions on multi-dimensional exchanges and cooperationbetween the two universities in teacher-student exchanges, joint student training, and cooperative scientific research.

After the meeting, Chen Yeguang attended the International Rectors’ Forum under the theme“Universities and the Future”hosted by MSU and made a speech entitled "Facing the Future: Missions and Actions of Universities". Chen pointed out that universities are not only an important force in serving the country’s strategic needs, but also the main force in serving regional economic and social development. Universities need to follow the laws of education and explore the construction of a high-quality collaborative education system centered on student growth; they need to build on their advantages in education and strive to forge scientific and technological innovation forces that support national and regional development strategies; and they need toopen wider and strive to build an international industry-university-research-application community with deep integration of multiple entities.

During the forum, President Chen, on behalf of NCU, and Academician Viktor A. Sadovnichy, Rector of MSU, signed a Joint Student Training Agreement between the two universities, hoping to use this opportunity to promote all-round and multi-field cooperation between the two sides.

On April 18th, a delegation led by Huai Jinpeng, China’s Minister of Education, visited MSU. As a representative of Chinese universities, President Chen Yeguang participated in a symposiumbetween the two sides and signed an understanding of cooperation between NCU and MSU under the witness of the leaders of the Ministry of Education of the two countries.

That night, the delegation went to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Russian Federation and attended a reception hosted by the embassy. In the reception, President Chen had in-depth communications with other universities attending the event on matters such as international scientific and technological cooperation.

On April 19th, Chen and his delegation visited ITMO University, a partner of NCU, and met with Vladimir Vasilyev, Rector of ITMO University.They agreed to comprehensively enhance the cooperative relationship between the two universities. Chen emphasized that ITMO university has a long history and strong strength in many subjects such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and big data. It also has rich experience in Sino-foreign cooperative education. In the past three years, the two universities have carried out teacher-student exchange projects in various forms and achieved satisfactory results. It is hoped that the two universities will carry out more extensive cooperation in fields such as talent training, academic exchanges, and scientific research cooperation to create a new pattern of substantive, high-level and sustainable international exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.

NCU has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Russian universities. It has established solid cooperative relationships and carried out substantive exchange and cooperation projects with Russian universities such asMSU, RUDN University, Novosibirsk State University, IMTO University, Ufa Universityof Science and Technology, Bashkir State Medical University and Perm State University. In 2023, NCU hosted the 6th Sino-Russian University Alliance of the Upper and Middle Reaches of Yangtze River and the Federal District along Volga River, organized teachers and students to participate in the Sino-Russian Youth Forum of “Yangtze River-the Volga” for six consecutive yearsand received high-level delegations from nearly 30 Russian universities to carry out educational exchanges and cooperationin NCU.

Relevant personnel from the Cross-Border Education Center and the School of Foreign Studiesof NCU accompanied the visit and participated in the activities.
