(Cross-Border Education Center) On June 16th, the council meeting of the NCU Confucius Institute at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Spain was held online. Deng Xiaohua, Vice President of NCU, Raúl Martín Martín, Vice President of the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, head of International Education College of NCU, as well as directors of the Confucius Institute from both Chinese and Spanish sides attended the meeting.
Deng Xiaohua fully affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute at UCLM in Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute at UCLM has already organized numerous influential cultural exchange activities between China and the West, and in the future, efforts should be made to host regional and even global people-to-people exchange activities. He hoped that with a solid foundation of cooperation, both sides can further strengthen their collaboration in the joint training of top international talents, and strive to yield bountiful fruits in the exchange and cooperation between the two universities in terms of disciplines, scholars, and students.
Raúl Martín Martín, on behalf of UCLM, extended his sincere greetings to the attending delegates and expressed his gratitude to all colleagues who have shown concern and assistance in the construction and development of the Confucius Institute.
He pointed out that the Confucius Institute has provided a good platform for the exchange and cooperation between the two universities. The Chinese language and culture courses offered by the Confucius Institute have been included as credited courses of UCLM. The books from the Confucius Institute have also been added to the University library’s collection for borrowing by faculty and students. He hoped that in the future, the two universities could strengthen the exchange and joint training of students at the master’s and doctoral levels, promoting broader exchange and cooperation between the people of China and Spain in the fields of education, culture, and art.
During this meeting, a resolution was passed regarding changes to the board members. The meeting also heard the work report for 2022, the financial statement for 2022, the work plan for 2023, and the budget proposal for 2023 of the Confucius Institute. The attending board members further discussed in depth the long-term development plan of the Confucius Institute and the promotion of substantive exchanges and cooperation in other areas between the two universities.
The NCU Confucius Institute at UCLM was established in 2017. Since then, the Confucius Institute has regarded teaching quality as the lifeline of its development. By continuously improving the curriculum system and the teaching quality, it has gained a good reputation in the field of Chinese language education in Spain and around the world. In recent years, students from the Confucius Institute have won first prizes and the global championship in the “Chinese-Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College and Secondary School Students sponsored by the Ministry of Education's Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation. The teachers and students of the Confucius Institute have also participated in many programs and interviews of mainstream media in China and abroad, thereby enhancing the international visibility and influence of NCU in the field of international Chinese education.
