The International Symposium on Biomass/Wastes Energy and Environment (BEE 2023) was successfully held in Nanchang, Jiangxi from September 21st to 23rd.
The symposium, co-hosted by Nanchang University (NCU), Tianjin University, Tianjin University of Commerce, and Tibet University, was organized by the Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Environment and Resource Utilization of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of Watershed Carbon Neutralization of the Ministry of Education, and the School of Resources and Environment at Nanchang University, with Professor Chen Guanyi, Vice President of Tianjin University of Commerce, and Professor Zhou Wenguang, Associate Director of the Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Environment and Resource Utilization of Nanchang University, serving as the co-executive chairs. Professor Jiang Jianchun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and professor at the Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products of the Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences, and Professor Liu Yaobin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NCU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. He Kebin and Hou Lian’an, academicians of CAE, addressed the symposium through video messages. Vice Presidents Ge Gang and Wu Dan of NCU also attended the symposium.
With the theme of promoting exploring the synergy between biomass/waste energy utilization and carbon/hazardous pollutant emissions reduction, the symposium focused on topics including biomass/waste energy treatment and utilization, process simulation and dynamic analysis, technologies and analysis for collaborative carbon emission reduction and pollution control, as well as cutting-edge interdisciplinary technologies and applications, aiming to promote collaborative carbon reduction and pollution control.
More than 500 participants, including experts and scholars from universities and research institutions, and representatives of various government departments and industries from over 20 countries attended the symposium. Plenary speeches were delivered by Professor Patricia Thornley from Aston University, Academician Jiang Jianchun, Professor Berend Vreugdenhil from the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, Academician Shi Bi from ACE, Academician John C. Crittenden from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Professor Zhiyou Wen from Iowa State University, Professor Samir Kanal from the University of Hawai’i, Academician Charles Xu from the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Professor Rachid Bennacer from Paris-Saclay University, and Professor Duu-Jong Lee from City University of Hong Kong. Centered around topics including carbon-neutral energy policies in different countries, hot research directions in bioenergy, and cutting-edge technologies in biomass and waste energy utilization, their speeches greatly contributed to an academic feast in the field of biomass and waste energy research.
In addition, during the conference, events such as the IEA Bioenergy TCP, ISO Biomass Gasification, Environmental Entrepreneur Forum, and International Cooperation Meeting were held. These activities are of great significance to promote scientific research and industrial development in the international biomass/waste environment and energy industry. The successful convening of BEE 2023 has further enhanced the international influence of Nanchang University in the field of low-carbon energy.
