Physics Discipline at NCU Ranked in the Top 1% Globally in ESI

    The School of Physics and Materials Science at NCU has recently achieved a major milestone, as its Physics discipline has been ranked in the top 1% globally in the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) rankings released by Web of Science. A total of 1,500 papers from this discipline have been included in the database, amassing a cumulative citation count of 20,409, a testament to the department's growing impact in the field.

    ESI is a bibliometric database that draws from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) within the Web of Science Core Collection. It ranks countries, institutions, and journals based on their research output and citation performance across 22 broad academic fields. Updated bi-monthly, the ESI includes institutions that rank in the top 1% globally, serving as a critical tool for assessing the international academic standing and influence of universities and research institutions. ESI rankings are considered essential for evaluating the progress of top-tier universities and disciplines.

    In recent years, the School of Physics and Materials Science at NCU has prioritized both basic and applied research, while developing distinct and competitive disciplines. The school has focused on enhancing its academic infrastructure, fostering the development of disciplines crucial to national needs, and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration. These efforts have led to significant progress in faculty development, talent cultivation, platform construction, the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and the enhancement of social service capacities. As a result, the overall quality and reputation of the school’s disciplines have significantly improved.
