Gathering Elites from Home and Abroad to Cultivate Medical Talents:

The Meeting of Presidents from Both Sides of the Sino-British Joint Programme and the Teacher-Student Symposium Were Successfully Held

Recently, the President’s Meeting of Sino-British Joint Programme between Nanchang University (NCU) and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and the teacher-student symposium with British side successfully kicked off. Leaders, teacher representatives and staffs of both universities gather together to congratulate the 2023 students of Queen Mary School on their successful completion of studies.

Professor Chen Yeguang, President of NCU and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Liu Yaobin, Vice President of NCU and National Changjiang Scholar, held cordial talks with Professor Colin Bailey, President of QMUL and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Professor Wen Wang, Vice President of QMUL and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. The talk summarized the development experience of Sino-British Joint Programme, and discussed the significance and demonstration value of cooperative education projects at the international level. At the same time, they also conducted in-depth exchanges on further expanding the cooperation.

Colin Bailey and his delegation also conducted an exchange with the outstanding graduates of the 2023 class participating in the Sino-British Joint Programme. During the communication, graduates talked about their gains in the dual degree programme of Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and their future directions. Colin Bailey expressed great congratulations to the graduates for their impressive achievements and for their pursuit of further study in the field of medical sciences. And Wen Wang said that NCU and QMUL have provided students with high-quality teachers and advanced education models. It is hoped that the two sides will continue to deepen high-level cooperation and further improve the quality of running schools in order to contribute to delivering more international and high-quality medical talents to the society.

What’s more, leaders and teachers from both Universities offered professional and comprehensive answers to the questions raised by graduates. Following the event, British leaders visited the laboratories of Queen Mary School of NCU, the British Office, smart classrooms and the Achievement Exhibition for the 10th Anniversary of the Sino-British Joint Programme.

Queen Mary School of Nanchang University is responsible for the operation and management of the joint programme between NCU and QMUL for undergraduates majoring in clinical medicine. The programme delivering clinical medicine and biomedical sciences is the first national sino-foreign joint programme of dual degree in clinical medicine major, which creates a precedent for high-level international medical education cooperation in Jiangxi Province. After five-year study, students will obtain two degrees when graduate: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from QMUL, and Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine from NCU.
