NCU Foreign Experts Won the 2024 Chinese Government Friendship Award

On September 30, the ceremony of the Chinese Government Friendship Award was held at the Great Hall of the People. Foreign experts Akihisa Inoue and Trelis Skryus Chupru from Nanchang University (NCU) were awarded the 2024 Chinese Government Friendship Award and invited to attend the reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Beijing.

The Chinese Government Friendship Award is an award to commend foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's reform and development. This is the first time that foreign experts from Nanchang University have received this award.

Akihisa Inoue, a materials scientist and academician of both the Japan Academy and the National Academy of Engineering in the United States, was appointed to NCU in 2023. Professor Inoue has long been engaged in the research and application of amorphous materials, and has made significant contributions to international cooperation in the development of metal materials in China, as well as to the cultivation of innovative talent. Since joining NCU, he has collaborated with Jiangxi Tungsten Group to overcome technical barriers, promoting new breakthroughs in related industries and aiding China achieve an internationally leading position in this field.

Troels Skrydstrup, an expert in the interdisciplinary fields of chemistry and materials science and academician of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, the Danish Academy of Natural Sciences, as well as the Danish Academy of Engineering, was appointed to NCU in 2018. Since joining Nanchang University, Professor Skrydstrup has actively promoted international academic exchanges and cooperation, deeply engaged in research innovation and talent cultivation projects, and mentored NCU students participating in the China College Students' “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, ultimately winning the national gold medal in the finals.

The two award-winning foreign experts expressed that receiving the Chinese Government Friendship Award is a high recognition of their work in China. This award will also inspire them to continue their commitment to higher education in China, serve as ambassadors for international academic exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, and make new contributions to the advancement of global scientific innovation and the shared development of humanity.
