The winners of the 2026 “CI Moments” Global Short Video Collection Event, hosted by the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF), were recently announced. The Confucius Institute at Hasanuddin University (CI-Unhas) in Indonesia, jointly established by Nanchang University (NCU), stood out among numerous global participants, clinching the Grand Prize for its submission, “The Chinese Dream Beyond the Storefront”.
In addition to the top honor, three other videos submitted by the Institute were recognized as “Outstanding Videos of the Year.” Both Nanchang University and CI-Unhas were awarded the Outstanding Organization Award.
The “CI Moments” Global Short Video Collection Event is one of the most influential global events in the field of international Chinese language education. This year’s competition received a total of 600 submissions from 141 Confucius Institutes across 77 countries.

The Grand Prize-winning video, “The Chinese Dream Beyond the Storefront”, is told from the perspective of Chinese Indonesian shop owners in Makassar. With genuine emotion, the film documents the inspiring journeys of three Chinese language learners—how they form bonds with the language and pursue their dreams through it: a craftsman preserves his traditional shop’s business through the language, an entrepreneur utilizes Chinese to expand into new markets, and a shopkeeper uses Chinese to connect with his nostalgia and heritage. For them, Chinese is not merely a tool for communication; it carries profound meanings of connection, respect, and cultural inheritance. Their stories vividly illustrate the vital role of the Chinese language as a bridge promoting cultural exchange and economic development between China and Indonesia.

In addition, three other videos recommended by CI-Unhas— “Beyond the Screen Drawn by Scenes, More Than Language," “Discovering Chinese in Makassar,” and “Chinese Encounters Makassar”—were also named Outstanding Videos of the Year.
CI-Unhas currently operates five teaching sites and one Chinese language training center, with an annual enrollment of over 2,000 students. The Institute has assisted Hasanuddin University in establishing an undergraduate program in “Chinese Language and Chinese Culture” and has facilitated a “2+2” joint undergraduate program in Chinese Language and Literature. CI-Unhas maintains official accounts across multiple overseas social media platforms as part of its sustained efforts in international cultural outreach, and has been awarded the honorable title of “The Excellent Confucius Institute in Media Engagement” for three consecutive years.
The Institute’s ability to deliver high-quality content and demonstrate exceptional organizational capacity in this competition reflects its core mission grounded in Chinese language teaching and characterized by strong international communication. It also highlights Nanchang University’s extensive experience and commitment to advancing international Chinese language education and fostering people-to-people exchanges worldwide.
