From Mathematical Modeling to Artificial Intelligence: Technological Innovation Leads the Future

CHEN Zhangxing, an Academician of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in the United States, fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Chair Professor at the University of Calgary, Chair Professor at the Eastern Institute for Advanced Study (temporary name), director of the International Joint Laboratory for Unconventional Oil and Gas at China University of Petroleum (Beijing). Professor CHEN's main research areas include computational mathematics, new energy development, fundamental theories in reservoir engineering and numerical simulation applications.
According to the Elsevier statistics, Professor Chen ranked first globally in the field of petroleum engineering over the past 15 years (2008-2023) based on comprehensive indicators including the number of papers, citations, and H-index. Professor Chen has published 1,100 papers in journals including PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), Chemical Society Reviews, Progress in Materials Science, etc. He has authored 24 books and delivered 490 invited academic presentations at international conferences. Additionally, he holds 46 invention patents and serves as an editorial board member for 16 international journals. He has been awarded the Chinese Government Friendship Award, the Ford President's Award, the Outstanding Leadership in Alberta Technology Award, the Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize, and the SPE highest achievement Award.
