Recent Advances in Additive Manufacturing and New Materials: Principles, Processes, and Applications

Professor Lv Jian is a member of the National Academy of Technologies of France(NATF). He serves as the Dean of the College of Engineering and the Chair Professor at City University of Hong Kong, the Director of Center for Advanced Structural Materials, the President of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society (HK-MRS), the former President of the Hong Kong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and the Vice President of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Laser and Additive Manufacturing Technology Innovation Alliance. He is also a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the World New Energy Vehicle Congress. In 1978, he was admitted ahead of schedule to Peking University and obtained his PhD in 1986 from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), France. His research covers areas such as 3D/4D printing, processing and mechanical properties of advanced nanomaterials, and prestress engineering in structural and functional materials. He has published over 600 papers in prestigious journals including Nature (cover article), Science, Nature Materials, Nature Chemistry, Nature Water, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Materials Today, Advanced Materials, Acta Materialia, and JACS, with more than 50,000 citations. He holds 84 authorized patents in Europe, the United States (50), and China. Professor Lv was a member of the first group of overseas review experts and distinguished scholars appointed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is a visiting researcher at the CAS Institute of Metal Research in Shenyang, an Honorary Professor at several universities including the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Northeastern University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Nanchang University. He is also a consulting professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Southwest Jiaotong University. In 2011, he was elected as a member of NATF, becoming the first Chinese academician among its over 300 members. He was appointed by the French President as a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2006, and as a Knight of the National Legion of Honour in 2017. In 2013 and 2018, he delivered speeches at the Chinese Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Chinese Materials Conference, respectively. In 2018, he was awarded the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize by the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
