On the occasion of the 14th “United Nations Chinese Language Day”, two overseas Confucius Institutes of Nan Chang University in Indonesia jointly held a series of activities centered around “International Chinese Language Day” with the theme of “Enhancing Dialogue among Civilizations through Chinese Language”, so as to celebrate the grand festival of the global Chinese language family. The activities were carried out in the form of themed Chinese lessons, calligraphy classes, ancient poem recitations and sending blessings to the “International Chinese Language Day”. Teachers, students and parents were welcome to attend the celebration and share this Chinese language festival.
Recently, the Confucius Institute at Universitas Hasanuddin in Indonesia held a series of activities to welcome the “United Nations Chinese Language Day”, with the participation of the Dean Dr. Ria, local Chinese teachers of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and teachers and students of the Confucius Institute. During the event, the Chinese teacher of the Confucius Institute first introduced the relevant background of the United Nations Chinese Language Day. Then teachers and students learned to sing Chinese songs with rich cultural deposits such as Sweet Honey and Blue and White Porcelain. Chinese teachers explained the connotation of these songs in detail, which employing songs as a medium to further stimulate students’ interest in learning Chinese language and understanding Chinese culture.
With the theme of “Chinese Language Nurtures Minds as Grain Rain Moistures All Things”, the International Chinese Language Day was also celebrated at Lokon High School Chinese Teaching Site of the Confucius Institute at Universitas Hasanuddin. Teachers led students to write the Chinese characters “中文日” (Chinese Language Day), practice eight-section brocade exercise, sing Chinese songs and perform finger dances together, which not only made students feel the diversity of Chinese culture, but also enjoy themselves through learning by doing.
SUNU Teaching Site of the Confucius Institute at Universitas Hasanuddin held plentiful activities including Kungfu performance, cultural lectures on “He” (Harmony), Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting there.
Tourism Confucius Institute at Udayana University in Indonesia has launched an array of cultural activities themed on “Tourism and Chinese Language”. During the event, Mr. Tang Wenquan, an inheritor of literati’s folding fan of Jinmen, Tianjin, was invited to write an inscription for the International Chinese language Day. In addition, the Confucius Institute also met with overseas well-known Chinese entrepreneurs and heads of tourism industry investment groups from Bali Island to jointly discuss the future development of the Tourism Confucius Institute.
The Confucius Institute has become an important platform for Chinese language learners around the world to learn Chinese language and understand Chinese culture. Nanchang University has established four overseas Confucius Institutes, which not only meet the needs of overseas Chinese language learners in learning Chinese language and culture, but also vigorously contribute to the joint development of diverse cultures and the construction of a harmonious world.
