School of Physical Education, April 21: After nine days of intense competition, the NCU Women’s Basketball Team won the third place in the 25th CUBAL First-Class League (Southeast Division) and successfully advanced to the national competition. At the same time, the NCU Men’s Basketball Team entered the top eight in the Southeast Division of CUBAL.

On April 13, the Southeast Division Competition of the 25th CUBAL (Chinese University Basketball Association League) kicked off in Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. 20 men’s basketball teams and 12 women’s basketball teams from 27 colleges and universities across the country launched a fight for tickets to the national competition. The competition was held in a mixed system involving round-robin and cross elimination.
Under the leadership of chief coach Yu Lizhen and veteran coach Han Peixia, the NCU Women’s Basketball Team strived in solidarity. In the race for the third place, the NCU players remained vigorous, frequently using fast break and offensive rebound to get scores at the beginning. Then the opponents from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics tied up the score, but Xu Hongpei from NCU ended the first half with a three-point shot at the crucial moment, making it 37:34. In the second half, NCU players were fired up and maintained favorable position through multiple rounds of fast attacks. While the opponent managed to even the score once again and overtook NCU team by 1 point. Feng Yanchen, another player from NCU scored on a layup with 30s left, defeating the rival by 71:70. Finally, the NCU Women’s Basketball Team won the third place in the Southeast Division, which will be qualified for national competition.
