The 2023 Ruichang China Masters, a Super 100 badminton tournament, was held in Ruichang, Jiangxi Province, with a total of 309 athletes from 21 countries and regions competing in the game. For its smooth running, Nanchang University (NCU) recruited 60 students to do volunteer work from March 11th to 19th.
In order to provide high-quality volunteer services for the competition, the Young Volunteers Association of Nanchang University organized a training for the students at Wai Jing Building on the evening of March 8th. Yang Jinghan, the Executive Director of Red Cross Society of China Jiangxi Branch and Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the Architecture and Design College of NCU, was invited to give students volunteer orientation and training.
After the training, young volunteers engaged themselves in the volunteer services with great enthusiasm and high spirit. During the tournament, they carried out their responsibilities, including translation and interpretation, match coverage, order maintenance and on-site consultation. They have vividly shown the excellence of young volunteers of NCU.
“I think this is a very valuable experience, because it gives us the opportunity to practice what we have learned in volunteering and allows us to show the charm of young volunteers from NCU,” said He Yijing, a student majoring in English and Japanese. Being meticulous and patient all along, she carefully checked the ID cards of the personnel in and out, handled all kinds of matters flexibly, and strictly followed the instructions of the teachers in charge. Her work was praised by many staff and left a deep impression on them.
“This activity has given me access to what I cannot learn from books, enriched my experiences and improved my knowledge and skills. Although the process of volunteering is challenging, the results are very rewarding.” said Liu Fangbing, a student majoring in Broadcasting and Hosting Art, who volunteered at the radio station.
Luo Ruixuan, a student majoring in English and Japanese, said, “During the volunteering, I was touched by the spirit of unity and solidarity of the volunteer team and was proud that I could be a part of such a grand international competition.” As a volunteer usher, she worked actively and warmly and found it happy and warmhearted.
“Young volunteers of Nanchang University performed quite well in this event. It is the wish of students to apply what they have learned to practice. I hope that young people join more international volunteer activities in the future, for practice is the best teacher.” said Liu Qian, a head referee (international level) on badminton and deputy head referee of this tournament.
Sun Peng, Director of the Second Competition Department of the Chinese Badminton Association and Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said, “As this was the first time that this international event was held in Jiangxi, we were short of volunteers. At this critical moment, Nanchang University offers a helping hand by sending an outstanding team of volunteers. I hope we can have more cooperation with Nanchang University regarding volunteering in the future.”
“In the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and mutual help, students of NCU have fully shown us their capabilities in volunteering. The 2023 Ruichang China Masters can’t be so wonderful without you!” said Wei Xiang, the volunteer coordinator and Deputy Director of the Competition Group of the tournament. He also spoke highly of the volunteers’ work.
The 2023 Ruichang China Masters—BWF Tour Super 100 is an epitome of the dialogue between China and the world. It demonstrates the dedication of young volunteers of Nanchang University and the enthusiasm and passion of Chinese youth. With their hard work, the tournament came to a successful conclusion.
