Introduction to the speaker: Tang Tao is a Chinese mathematician, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences. He was the Dean of Science of Hong Kong Baptist University and the Vice President of Southern University of Science and Technology, and is currently serving as the President of BNU-HKBU United International College. He completed his bachelors degree in mathematics in 1984 from Peking University and earned his doctors degree from the University of Leeds in 1989. Prof. Tang Tao is mainly engaged in computational mathematics research, and his research in the areas of error analysis of computational methods for hyperbolic equations, theory of spectral methods for differential equations, high-precision algorithms for phase-field models, and computational fluid dynamics has been widely influential. He was invited by the International Congress of Mathematicians to give a 45-minute presentation in 2018. He is the editor-in-chief or editorial board member of several international mathematical journals and has received many awards such as the Feng Kang Prize, Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and National Natural Science Award. He has long been devoted to the popularization and promotion of mathematical culture, founding the journal Mathematical Culture and serving as editor-in-chief.
