Ge Junbo, professor, chief physician and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, now serves as a Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, and the Deputy Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Committee. He is the Director of the National Center for Clinical Research on Radiological and Therapeutic Technology, Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China, Director of Institutes of Biomedical Sciences of Fudan University, Director of the Cardiology Department at Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, Director of the Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Director of State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Diseases, Director of the Ministry of Education's Engineering Research Center for Cardiovascular Interventions and Devices, President of the Cardiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Chairman of the China Cardiovascular Health Alliance, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC), President of the Chronic Total Occlusion Club China (CTOCC), Academic Committee Member of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Member of the Board of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiopraphy and Interventions (SCAI), International Consultant of American College of Cardiology (ACC), Executive Director of the Board of the World Heart Federation (WHF), Honorary President of the World Chinese Cardiovascular Physicians Association and Visiting Professor of Columbia University.
Academician Ge has been awarded honorary titles of“Science and Technology Elite”, and won the National May 1st Labor Medal, the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Award and the Bethune Medal. He has long been committed to the optimization and technological innovation of coronary artery disease diagnosis and treatment strategies. He has achieved a series of results in the fields of intravascular ultrasound technology, research and development of new coronary stents, interventional strategies for complex and difficult coronary diseases, and cell therapy for coronary diseases. He was the first internationally to identify specific echocardiographic diagnostic markers for myocardial bridging, the “lunar phenomenon” and “fingertip phenomenon”. He took charge of the development of the first biodegradable drug-coated stent in China. He pioneered the “reverse wire technique” at the American TCT Conference and successfully performed the first percutaneous aortic valve implantation, percutaneous mitral valve repair and percutaneous pulmonary angioplasty in China. He has undertaken more than 20 research projects at national and provincial level such as the“863” program and Key Projects, published more than 300 corresponding/first author papers in SCI, won more than 10 science and technology awards at provincial and ministerial level or above as the first person-in-charge such as the National Award for Science and Technology Progress and the National Award for Technological Invention and edited 1 English monograph and 19 Chinese monographs. He is the Chief Editor of Textbook of Internal Medicine (8th Edition) and Practice of Internal Medicine (15th Edition), Chief Editor of Cardiology Plus and Deputy Editor of Herz.
