NCU Doctors Publish in Brain Stimulation

Director FENG Zhen and Vice Director BAI Yang of the Rehabilitation Hospital of NCU collaborated with Professor Ulf Ziemann's team from the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research at the University of Tubingen in Germany to publish an article titled "Breakdown of effective information flow in disorders of consciousness: Insights from TMS-EEG" in Brain Stimulation, one of the top journals in the field of neuromodulation. This research applied advanced TMS-EEG technology to analyze the phenomenon of interrupted information flow in the brains of patients with consciousness disorders and revealed its relationship with the level of consciousness of patients. The Consciousness Disorders Rehabilitation Center of Rehabilitation Hospital of NCU is the first author affiliation of the paperand BAI Yang is the first author. Based on the research and clinical cooperation, the Rehabilitation Hospital of NCU also collaborated with the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research at the University of Tubingen in Germany to establish the "Consciousness Disorders Rehabilitation Laboratory", which was also designated as a Key Health Laboratory in Jiangxi Province. This laboratory, jointly established by Chinese and German partners, aims to promote comprehensive management of awakening rehabilitation for patients with consciousness disorders, advance the development of cognitive science testing methods for residual brain function, and introduce and expand high-level technologies for assessing brain neural function and neuromodulation. It aims to create a new frontierin the research of consciousness disorders rehabilitation with a distinctive feature of integrated medical approaches.

BAI Yang, Vice Director and Researcher at the Rehabilitation Hospital of NCU, and Master's Supervisor, serves as the Executive Director of the Key Laboratory for Consciousness Disorders Rehabilitation of the Health Commission of Jiangxi Province. He is a Humboldt Scholar in Germany, and a research fellow at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research in Germany. Additionally, he holds positions as Deputy Secretary-General of the Cognitive and Brain Regulation Branch of the Chinese Society for Cognitive Science, Deputy Director of the Youth Committee of the Rehabilitation Therapy Special Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Deputy Secretary-General (and Executive Director) of the Jiangxi Rehabilitation Medical Association, and Director of the Brain Function Testing and Regulation Rehabilitation Special Committee of the Jiangxi Rehabilitation Medical Association. He has published 39 SCI papers, obtained 10 national invention patents, contributed to the compilation of 5 monographs in Chinese and English, presided over 3 national and provincial projects, received the Outstanding Youth Fund of Jiangxi Province, and won 2 second prizes for provincial science and technology achievements. Furthermore, he serves as an editorial board member for Brain Sciences, Brain Network Disorder, and Brain-X , and as a guest editor for Frontiers in Neuroscience.

FENG Zhen, Professor, Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, and Director of the Rehabilitation Hospital of NCU, is responsible for the construction of National Clinical Key Specialty and National First-Class Undergraduate Specialty (Rehabilitation Therapy). He also serves as Director of Jiangxi Rehabilitation Quality Control Center and Jiangxi Rehabilitation Clinical Medical Research Center. Additionally, he is a member of the expert group of the Medical Quality Control Center for Rehabilitation Medicine of the National Health Commission and a reviewer for key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as projects of the National Natural Science Foundation.

Currently, he holds positions as Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Director of the Rehabilitation Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Deputy Director of the Rehabilitation Quality Control Working Committee of and the Consciousness Disorder Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Executive Committee Member of the Rehabilitation Physician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Chairman of the Jiangxi Rehabilitation Medical Association, Director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Branch of the Jiangxi Medical Association, Chairman of the Rehabilitation Physician Branch of the Jiangxi Medical Doctor Association, and Chairman of the Professional Committee for the Management of Medical Rehabilitation Institutions of the Jiangxi Hospital Association. He has presided over and participated in more than 20 projects, including 4 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, 1 key sub-project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 5 provincial key and general projects. He has published over 120 papers, including more than 40 SCI papers, obtained 8 national invention patents, more than 10 national utility model patents, and 2 software copyrights. He has won 2 second prizes for scientific and technological achievements in Jiangxi Province, 2 first prizes for scientific technology awarded by the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the first and the third prizes for scientific and technological achievements in higher education in Jiangxi Province as the first completed person, and edited 7 books. He has received various honors, including National Most Beautiful Rehabilitation Technology Worker, the Third National "Doctor as Good as Bethune", One of the most outstanding Talents in Jiangxi Province, Outstanding Youth Experts in Health and Family Planning in Jiangxi Province, Most Beautiful Doctor in Jiangxi Province, and Excellent Rehabilitation Physician of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Ulf Ziemann, Director of the Institute of Neurology at the University of Tubingen in Germany andDirector of the Department of Neurology and Stroke Center at the affiliated hospital, currently also serves as the director of the Hertie Clinical Brain Research Institute in Germany and the chairman of DGKN. His articles have been cited over 61,400 times, with a Google Scholar H-index of 119. Currently, he serves as the associate editor for top international journals such as Brain Stimulation, Journal of Neuroscience, and Neuroimage, and as the Editor-in-Chief of the renowned electrophysiology journal Clinical Neurophysiology. He was awarded as the "Best Doctor" by GuterRat from 2014 to 2022, and received the title of "Focus Top Physician" in 2022, as well as the Outstanding Achievement Award and Research Excellence Award from the National Institutes of Health in the United States.
