
In April, Nanchang University (NCU) is bathed in the vibrant spring scenery. From April 2nd to 3rd, on the occasion of NCU’s 105th anniversary, Academician Xu Ruihua of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Academician Zeng Musheng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences — both distinguished medical alumni — were invited back to their alma mater for visits and academic exchanges. They discussed strategic initiatives for medical development, bringing insights and impetus to the university’s medical education. They were accompanied by Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University, Academician Chen Yeguang, President of the university, and Pan Bingxing, Vice President of the university.

Xu Ruihua, Zeng Musheng, and their delegation visited the University History Museum of Nanchang University. Through detailed historical materials and engaging commentary, they developed a deep understanding of the university’s historical evolution, educational characteristics, and recent development achievements. They retraced the university’s solid footsteps in overcoming challenges and forging ahead across different periods, and truly appreciated its profound cultural heritage and fine educational traditions.

During the visit, the two academicians visited affiliated hospitals to engage in academic discussions and deliver cutting-edge lectures, and they were warmly welcomed by teachers, students, and medical staff.

At the Xianghu Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, Academician Xu Ruihua reviewed the hospital’s efforts in supporting the “Healthy Jiangxi” initiative. He was also invited to deliver a lecture at the 9th Session of the Discipline Lecture Hall of the First Affiliated Hospital, which also served as the First Lecture of the Jiangxi Medical Alumni Series Academic Forum in Celebration of the 105th Anniversary of Nanchang University. In his high-level academic lecture entitled Overcoming Immunotherapy Resistance in Gastrointestinal Tumors, he shared the latest progress and in-depth insights in the field of tumor immunotherapy.
At the Hongjiaozhou Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital, Academician Zeng Musheng conducted an on-site inspection. He was then invited to deliver a lecture at the “Qianhu Lecture Hall”, the Second Session of the Jiangxi Medical Alumni Series Academic Forum celebrating the 105th anniversary of Nanchang University. Delivering a lecture entitled Molecular Basis and R&D Strategies for Epstein-Barr Virus Vaccines, he systematically presented cutting-edge developments and research pathways in related fields, offering profound insights to the attending faculty and students.
Professor Xu Ruihua graduated from the Clinical Medicine major of Jiangxi Medical College in 1988. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China. As the principal contributor, he has won two Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, one National Innovation Pioneer Award, and seven First Prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels. He has also received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award, the Wu Jieping Medical Innovation Award, the Tan Jiazhen Clinical Medicine Award, and the CSCO Annual Achievement Award. He has been selected for the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, recognized as a National Advanced Worker, and named a recipient of the State Council Special Government Allowance, a member of the Guangdong Outstanding Talents Program, and a Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in National Health and Family Planning, among other honors.
Researcher Zeng Musheng graduated from the Clinical Medicine major of Fuzhou Campus of Jiangxi Medical College in 1988. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. He has been selected as one of the “Guangdong Outstanding Talents” and as a member among the 9th Group of Middle-Aged and Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions to National Health. He has received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, led two National Key R&D Programs, and a number of Key Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has long focused on research into Epstein-Barr virus-induced carcinogenesis mechanisms and targeted intervention. As the principal contributor, he has won the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (2023), the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (2022), the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of Guangdong Province (2018 and 2023), and the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (2019).
