Strategic Insights into Accelerating Core New Material Technology Development in the Late Industrialization Phase
Speaker: Gan Yong
Gan Yong is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He holds the title of professor-level senior engineer at Central Iron and Steel Research Institute and chairs the National Expert Advisory Committee for the New Materials Industry Development. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from Northeast Institute of Technology (present-day Northeastern University), Master of Engineering from Shanghai University of Technology, and doctoral degree from Central Iron and Steel Research Institute under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, where he launched his professional career. His previous appointments include President of Central Iron and Steel Research Institute, Chairman of China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and President of China Rare Earth Industry Association. He was a delegate to the 16th and 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Academician Gan Yong’s research focuses on high-end equipment special alloys and advanced rare earth materials. His academic achievements have earned him two Second Class National Science and Technology Progress Awards, five First Class Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and two titles of Outstanding Contributor to National Key Science and Technology Projects.
