Research on Energy-oriented Polymeric Materials and Practical Applications
Speaker: Chen Yongsheng
Chen Yongsheng is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society and recipient of the Special Government Allowance granted by the State Council. He currently works as Chair Professor and doctoral supervisor at Nankai University. His research centers on functional organic polymers and carbon nanomaterials, as well as their application in energy conversion and storage. He put forward the design philosophy of high-efficiency solution-processable A-D-A structured oligomeric organic photovoltaics and three-dimensionally crosslinked graphene-carbon composite polymers.
A range of innovative functional polymeric materials have been developed in his research. His team clarified the multi-scale structure-performance correlation spanning molecular configuration, microscopic morphology and macroscopic properties, and fabricated high-performance devices for energy conversion and storage. His original findings have earned remarkable global academic influence. Core technologies developed by his group have achieved industrial application, greatly driving disciplinary progress of polymer science and domestic energy technological development. Academician Chen has led major national research initiatives, including the 973 Program, 863 Program, key NSFC research projects and general major programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
He has authored over 400 high-caliber papers published in Science, Nature and sister journals, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie and Advanced Materials. His works have accumulated more than 90,000 citations with an H-index of 130. He owns over 50 authorized invention patents.
As the leading contributor, he won the Second Class National Natural Science Award in 2018 and the First Class Tianjin Natural Science Award in 2010. He has also received honors including Tianjin Model Worker, Distinguished Scientific Researcher and Outstanding Educator. He has been named a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher for 11 straight years since 2014. He serves on the editorial boards of Science China Chemistry, Science China Materials, Carbon, 2D Materials and Energy Storage Materials.
